How to Import a Recipe

You can easily import recipes into your Real Plans Recipe Box using our import tool.

How to import from a webpage

  • Open the webpage that contains the recipe you would like to import
  • Copy the website URL
  • Open Real Plans in another tab in your browser
  • Navigate to your Recipe Box
  • Click on Import Recipe (next to the search box)
  • Paste the website URL into the text box
  • Click Import
  • Review the information to ensure that it is complete
  • If desired, enter the active time, total time, servings, and any tags you would like to include
  • Select any applicable categories
    • For a recipe to schedule automatically, Season, Course, and Main Ingredient must be specified
  • Click Save in the upper right corner of the recipe card
  • Verify the ingredients and their quantities on the Check Ingredients window
    • If the ingredient column is blank and highlighted in pink for any of the ingredients, then the ingredient was not recognized by the system
    • To find an ingredient that is recognized, begin to type the ingredient in the ingredient box and then use the list that is shown to select the desired ingredient
      • Example: Type chicken in the ingredient box and then use the list to select which type of chicken you want, saving you the time of writing it all out and ensuring that it is a recognized ingredient
    • Notes written in either of the notes columns will appear in the ingredient list on the recipe card but they will not be included on the Shopping List
  • Click Confirm

Helpful Hints

  • Bullet pointed ingredient lists and numbered directions work the best
  • Use the URL for the webpage and not the printable version of the recipe
  • Image files should be in one of the following formats: jpg, jpeg, png, bmp
  • In some situations it may not be necessary to include a unit of measure (UoM) for an ingredient. For example, 1 onion would not require a UoM
  • Select exact quantities for ingredients such as "4 pounds ground beef" instead of "3-4 pounds ground beef"
  • Use specific quantities, such as 14 ounces of diced tomatoes instead of 1 can of diced tomatoes
  • Fractions should be listed as 1 1/2 rather than 1+1/2
  • The Notes section is intended for short notes, so it limits the number of characters that it will show when the recipe is saved.  For longer notes, consider adding them in the instructions, dividing them up into multiple lines.
  • If no ingredient shows up initially in the Ingredient column on the confirmation screen, use the drop down box to select one that most closely matches the one you entered.  To do this, start to type the ingredient name, for example "fajita" and then select the desired fajita ingredient from the drop down list.
