How to Use the Shopping List

View the Shopping List

To view the the Shopping list from any Real Plans web page:

  • Click Planner in the upper left corner
  • Click the drop down arrow on the right side of the screen and select View Shopping List

  1. The current week of the shopping list is indicated here.  You can change between weeks as needed.
    • Use the arrows to view other weeks 
  2. This area provides you with several functions
    • Sync - which will remove all of the items that have been checked off from the current view
    • Grocery List - provides a list of all of the items needed to make the recipes that have been scheduled. It will update automatically when you make changes to the meal plan. 
    • You can specify different stores and which items you want to buy from these stores. 
    • When you begin checking items off, there will also be a link for "Already have." Each item you check off is moved to that list.
    • You can send your shopping list to Instacart and Amazon Fresh.
  3. Items are divided into different areas where they are frequently found in a grocery store.  You can check off an entire category by clicking the circle for a category.
  4. Each item can be checked off or modified. To check off an item, indicating that you have it, click the circle next to that item. To review and/or modify an item, click the words for that item.
  5. All of the available actions for your Shopping List are located in this area.  Click on View Planner in order to view your meal plan, or click the drop down arrow to view all of the available actions.
  6. This area allows you to add items to the Shopping List that are not included in a scheduled recipe.
    • Enter your ingredient in the Add Ingredient box
    • Click + 
    • In the window that opens for that ingredient, you can edit:
      • Quantity
      • Unit of Measurement (UoM)
      • The number of times you would like to buy the item (one time, every week, every two weeks, every three weeks, monthly)
        • Note: the Produce category has 2 subcategories: refrigerated and non-refrigerated that you can choose between
      • The shop from which you would like to purchase the item
      • Indicate that it is an item you always have, as needed
    • Click Add
    • The item, which will appear in your Shopping List in the category you selected, will note that it is an item added by you
  7. If you see a link to "Make your own" you can click that link to add the recipe to make the ingredient to the meal plan. All of the ingredients needed will be added to your Shopping List.
  8. Any notes that have been added to an ingredient will appear here.

Add an ingredient back to the list after it was checked off

When you check off an ingredient, that ingredient is moved to the Already have list the next time the Shopping List syncs

  • If you checked off an ingredient but need to add it back to the Shopping List, click on the refresh icon on the Shopping List
  • Then click on Already Have
  • Click the circle next to the item to add it back to the Shopping List

Available actions

  • View timeline allows you to view the timeline for the week to help you remember when to cook, defrost ingredients, start a slow cooker, etc.
  • Print shopping list allows you to print the current shopping list
  • Email shopping list allows you to email the current shopping list to yourself
  • Manage shops allows you to identify the stores where you would like to shop. This helps you stay organized while you shop by allowing you to create a list for each of the stores you visit. But don't worry, you will still have the main list that contains all of the items, in case you need to see everything at once.
  • Schedule ingredients allows you to identify ingredients that you want to buy automatically. You can select the frequency you want to buy each item as well.
  • Custom date range allows you to shop for more than one week at a time.
