How to Adjust the Number of Servings Without Changing Your Defaults

When you set up your meal plan, you initially selected the default number of people you cook for when you are making each meal.  Sometimes, though, you may need more flexibility during the week. This article explains the different ways you can adjust the number of people you cook for in your planner to reflect your needs.

Change the number of people you cook for on a scheduled recipe

  • Open your Planner
  • Click on the recipe for which you would like to adjust the number of people you cook for
  • In the top right corner of the recipe card, you will see Cook for, with the current number of servings
  • Use the arrows to increase or decrease to the desired number
    • This will adjust the number of ingredients accordingly on the recipe card as well as the shopping list

Change the number of people you cook for at a specific meal time every week

If you normally cook dinner for 4 but only cook for 2 for lunch, you can change the Cook for number to reflect the number of servings you need for each lunch

  • This feature is only available in the automated meal planning style
  • Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the website (this is where you access your Settings)
  • This opens the Diet and Schedule page where you can make adjustments to your schedule
  • Click Personalize My Schedule
  • Click Options next to the meal for which you would like to adjust the servings
  • Adjust the Cooks for option
    • If you selected that you want leftovers, this will be reflected automatically in your options.
  • Save changes
    • Click Save on the Schedule page, which takes you back to the Diet and Schedule page.
    • Click Deploy New Plan at the bottom of the Diet and Schedule page to apply your changes.

Pro Tip: making changes on this page will remove all of the recipes that are currently scheduled and replace them with new recipes. Be sure to make the changes before you have shopped for the week.

Change the number of batches you want to cook of one recipe one time

There are certain recipes, like baked goods and quiches, that do not scale well.  Consequently, you cannot adjust the number of servings that the recipe will make. However, if you need to make more than one batch of one of these recipes, you can set that up.

  • Open your Planner
  • Click on the recipe for which you would like to adjust the number of batches you want to cook
  • In the top right corner of the recipe card, you will see Make, with the current number of batches and approximately how many servings are in each batch
  • Use the arrows to increase or decrease to the desired number
    • This will adjust the quantity of ingredients accordingly on the recipe card as well as the shopping list
